On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Resolution which stated: “
Resolved
, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”

It’s also the Army’s birthday and Trump’s birthday. So much America in one day.

Considering current events, that might actually be appropriate.

Yeah. It actually kind of would be, and if it wouldn’t twist the panties of everyone from either side on here, I might actually be tempted to do it.
But today is not the day to rile people up. Today sucks. Today should be a unifying day.

This too shall pass.
(Our trials or the flag, not sure which yet.)

Assuming the right understands the flag code and what an upside down flag means.

If it’s Flag Day it is also Paul Shandrew’s birthday. Who’s Paul Shandrew? Just an old friend from grade school days that I haven’t seen in over 40 years . Hopefully his sense of humor and humility has improved since then.
His mother was our Cub Scout Den Mother, so most of our meetings were at their house, a nice place with a pool. At that time I didn’t know how to swim. Paul came running up to me and shouted “don’t fall in!” and instinctively I moved away from the edge of the pool. This wasn’t part of his plan, and instead of missing me he ran straight into me and pushed me in. Gee, thanks.
Since this was 1976 it was an Olympic year. We were having our little mock Olympics, and in the first race Paul beat me. He got up in my face, making fun of me and taunting me. Whatever - that stuff never riled me up . Second race it was the same routine. In the third race I beat him, and just to let him know what it felt like I did the same stupid, juvenile taunting right back to him. He freaked out - yelling, crying, throwing punches. It took two parents to pull him off of me...
Semi-interesting side note - just around the corner from there, near my old grade school and not far from where I lived, a small aircraft crashed into the neighborhood. This happened last year. One person in the airplane and four in the house perished.

That is quite a side-note

It’s amazing how many aircraft crashes we’ve had into residential neighborhoods around SoCal. But given how densely packed and built up the area really is, it shouldn’t come as any great surprise.
This is just what I was used to. When I moved to the midwest 8 years ago I was thrown off by the fact that there were cities and towns and then open areas for miles and miles between them. I was not accustomed to undeveloped land...

Those are just good. This one is GREAT.

Also the size of the lots. I mean, things are fairly congested in the Northeast Corridor, but there still aren’t many places outside the major city limits that will let you cover 90+ % of your lot with the house footprint.

The neighborhood in which I grew up, where my parents still live nearly 40 years later (not pictured) , has restrictions on how much of your lot that you can build on and it makes for a pleasant area. There was a section that was left undeveloped for a planned school, but after about a decade that property was sold off for residential development. Even though it’s in the same area as my parents place, the rules had changed. Sadly, it’s full of McMansions on small lots and just does not fit in very well with the established development with it’s spacious lots and houses not crammed on top of each other.

Its also fun when the developer doesn’t plan things out right and starts cramming houses into whatever space is leftover after mapping out the normal lots. The one that did my parent s’ neighborhood in the ‘80s ran into financial trouble, and found a way to squeeze one extra house into a cul de sac - the gable end with garage faces the street, the more heavily ornamented facade with the front porch faces the neighboring house, with maybe 20 feet between it and the neighbor’s garage. There’s also one other house that they build about 20% narrower than any other one in the development to fit it into another little scrap of land. Problem is they just used the same cookie cutter design for everything and didn’t bother to try and adapt for the site.

This was me my senior year of high school. We played on September 11, and I asked if we could run out with the flag for the day. Usually we just run out with the school flag (behind me). I provided said flag and pole myself. This was one of my favorite moment playing football in my life, beating out winning three state championships. The reaction afterward from everyone was amazing.
